Unlocking biodiversity Conservation in Queensland: the Role of Research and are we Asking the Right Questions?

In September 2024 the QUT Resilience Centre hosted a star-studded panel to discuss how research can be leveraged to improve biodiversity conservation in Queensland and the rest of Australia. We had the pleasure of hearing from Dr Liz O’Brien, Chief Executive Officer, Queensland Trust for Nature, Dr Tim Selig, Director, Strategic Policy, Department of Environment, Science and Innovation, Dr Michelle Ward, Lecturer, Centre for Planetary Health and Food Security, Griffith University, and Associate Professor Kate Helmstedt, School of Mathematical Sciences, Queensland University of Technology. We had over 50 people attend and the discussion ranged from how we frame research questions to have impact, to how we engage with end users of research to gain their trust and attention, to reading the minds of policy makers! It was incredibly valuable to hear from the experts on the panel and we hope there were many take-aways that members of the centre will be able to use to enhance the impact of their research. We will aim to run more events like this in the future.
